What happens to your Recycling?

Image:

Ever wondered what happens to your recyclable waste after it leaves your home?

Where does my recyclable waste go? What is it recycled into?

  • Paper - is recycled into fresh new paper in just 7 days!

  • Glass - is recycled into new bottles and jars, mainly in the UK. A small proportion of our glass can be recycled into aggregate for road building purposes. Recycling just one bottle can save enough energy to power a TV for 20 minutes.

  • Steel can be transformed into new food tins, railways or even a bike or paper clip.

  • Textiles - are sorted in Birmingham where reusable clothing is sent to Eastern Europe and Africa. The remainder is recycled into emergency blankets or used for rags of fillers.

  • Alluminium - The story of Aluminium Recycling shows the journey that takes place for aluminium from your recycling boxes or bring banks to the reprocessor and then ultimately back into new products.

  • Cans - are recycled in the UK. Aluminium cans are recycled into new cans or foil or car parts (such as alloy wheels).
  • Cardboard - is recycled in the UK into new carboard-based packaging or composted with food and garden waste to produce a soil conditioner.
