The Schools 'Cutting your wasteline' Grant

Available for Devon Primary and Secondary Schools and also those in Torbay and Plymouth

Would you like money to help reduce the amount of rubbish your school sends to landfill and / or promote waste and recycling education?   

Devon Authorities now offer schools the opportunity to apply for a grant for up to £1,000.

Grants can be used in a variety of ways:    

  • to set up composting and recycling systems in your school    

  • educate your pupils about composting and recycling

  • transport costs for visiting waste and recycling facilities 

There are three rounds of funding during the education year of 2012-13.

All schools will be informed of the outcome of their application by the notification date - see below:-

If you wish to apply for composting equipment then click here for a '5 day food waste weight recording' spreadsheet. The weights you input link to other tabs on the spreadsheet to display the information in various chart and graph forms. These could be used as part of numeracy with the children.

Recycling Credits

If you divert household waste from landfill through recycling or composting schemes, you may be eligible for recycling credits. To find out more, see the Recycling Credits guidance. If you are a Torbay or Plymouth School you will need to contact your authorities Recycling Officer.

Other Funding

The Ernest Cook Trust gives grants to registered charities, state schools and not-for-profit organisations to encourage young people’s interest in the countryside and the environment, the arts and to improve literacy and numeracy. Please note that this grant will not fund composters in schools.

We will not pass your details to any third party.

Sainsbury's Family Charitable Trusts

They don’t have a specific application form, details requested are on the website. It would be best to submit your form to general address at the bottom of the website page and they will decide which specific trust fund would be most appropriate.

Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards Scheme

Provides one-off donations of between £500 and £4,000 to local projects that support children and their education and welfare, elderly people and adults and children with disabilities. Click here for more information
