Compost in school project
In this sectionThis exciting project operates with selected learning communities. This page includes background information to the scheme and relevent documents for schools running with the scheme. |
The Composting in Schools Project ran in 8 learning communities, 1 in each of Devon's districts, from Sept 2009 until end of March 2012. Each of the participating schools in these learning communities had its compostable waste audited, then this data was used to calculate the appropriate composting equipment for that schools needs. This equipment and two days educational support was given to the school, free of charge. The equipment is able to compost all the schools food waste (including fruit waste, cooked food, meat and bones) with the aim that the school became 'zero food waste to landfill'. The resulting compost was all used on the school site to comply with regulations.
Turn your waste food...... into new food! The compost can be used to grow fab new plants and veggies.
Below are documents that schools in this project are able to use. If your school is not in one of the chosen learning communities and you want to compost all your food waste, then read the guidance on the composting pages of this website and think about applying for a grant, click here for more information on funding.
