Here are a number of suggested ways in which you can reduce your waste:
- Use reusable products wherever possible and avoid disposable ones.
- Before you go shopping, write a shopping list and only buy items that you need. Avoid impulse purchasing.
- When you are deciding what to eat, try to plan your meal so that any leftovers can be used. A roast chicken carcass can be used to make stock and leftover vegetables for soup.
- Ask yourself the question: "Do I need this new item?" when shopping. If so, is there a more sustainable version?
- Avoid purchasing based on the price alone. Look at the quality of the product - a cheaper version may break much sooner, costing you twice as much in the long term.
- Walk or cycle wherever possible to avoid car journeys.
- Car share or use alternative transport, such as buses and trains.
These are just a few suggested ways you can help reduce your waste and also your environmental impact. By thinking just a little bit more about our daily lives, we can all reduce our waste relatively easily.
