Food Waste Action Week 2026

We’re proud to be joining in with Food Waste Action Week.

This year, we’re sharing tips and tricks to help you make your food go fuuuuuurther – to get more for your pocket and for our planet.

Every year, UK households throw away 4.4 million tonnes of edible food – worth a staggering £17.5 billion. That’s an average of £1,000 wasted per household of four every year. At a time when the cost of living continues to squeeze family budgets and climate pressures intensify, reducing food waste is one of the fastest, simplest ways to save money and protect the planet.

By preventing food waste, using up leftovers, and recycling anything that can’t be eaten, we can unlock more value from the food we already have by helping it to stretch further.

Quick and easy recipes

Our quick and easy recipes are designed to be flexible, to help you use up what you’ve got to hand – saving money and preventing waste. You can also find helpful tips for making the most of the foods we most commonly throw away!

Leftovers

Change the way you think about leftovers – plan to make them!

It’s often more economical to cook in bigger batches, so there are bigger savings to be had by cooking extra at dinnertime with the intention of having some leftovers for the next day. Or freeze your extras for a ready-to-go meal when you’re short on time.

Cooking a bigger meal also helps to make sure everything gets used up (less half-used tins of tomatoes or cartons of cream in the fridge!).

Unsure how to utilise your leftovers? Nervous about storage and reheating? Get the facts here.

Unavoidable food waste can still be put to good use by being recycled in the food waste collection service, where available, or composted at home.
