What can I recycle?

Green box

  • Plastic bottles
  • Food trays, margarine tubs, yoghurt pots
  • Food tins/drink cans
  • Aluminium foil
  • Aerosol cans (no tops)

Please remember to wash and squash your recycling.

  • Household batteries (placed inside a clear bag within the box)
  • Small electrical items (inside a carrier bag within the green box).

We cannot accept microwaves as part of the recycling scheme, these are classed as bulky items.

Black box

  • Glass jars and bottles.

Brown bag

  • Flattened cardboard (no tape or staples)
  • Egg boxes
  • Greeting cards (no glitter)
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Brown paper and envelopes

We ask that any large boxes are broken down and placed inside the bag.  They should not be left in a pile on the kerb or stacked inside another box.

Please remove any tape from the boxes before placing them out for collection.

Each household can place out a maximum of 2 brown bags per week.

Any excess cardboard should be taken to your local recycling centre or put out the following week.

Green bag

  • Newspapers/magazines
  • Catalogues
  • General paper (including shredded paper, please put in separate, tied bag before putting in green bag)
  • Envelopes (not brown)
  • Sheets/curtains
  • Duvet cover/pillow cases
  • Shoes (pairs only)
  • Clothing (1-3 items)

Please remove any plastic wrapping from magazines.

Food caddies

  • Bread and pastries
  • Dairy products
  • Meat and bones
  • Tea leaves and bags
  • Coffee grounds
  • Fish and fish bones
  • Fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Salad items
  • Cut flowers

We ask that residents line their caddy with newspaper, biodegradable bags, carrier bags or bin liners to prevent food sticking to the caddy.

Please tie the bags so that they come out easier when emptying.

Green Wheelie Bin

Optional, chargeable service.

  • Bark/hedge clippings
  • Twigs/small branches
  • Plants (no soil)
  • Windfalls/wood shavings
  • Grass cuttings
  • Real Christmas trees
