Abandoned vehicles

Removal of abandoned vehicles on the public highway is the responsibility of your local council.

Please contact your local council directly to report an abandoned vehicle/s.

Aerosols

Some district councils collect aerosol cans in their household collection.  Please click here for more information on what your district council collects. Normal domestic aerosols can be recycled at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Air Conditioning Units (domestic)

Domestic air conditioning units are accepted at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Aluminium Cans

You can recycle aluminium cans in your household collection; please squash them as much as possible first. You can also take them to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Aluminium Foil

Some district councils can collect aluminium foil in their household collections.  Please click here for more information on what your district council collects.

Alternatively, you can take foil to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Aluminium Trays

Some district councils can collect aluminium trays in their household collection Please click here for more information on what your district council collects.

Alternatively, you can take aluminium trays to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Animal/pet bedding

If you have unused bags of straw or hay, why not see if you can give it away to a friend or family member with a pet or local animal rescues.

Alternatively, in most areas you should be able to dispose a small amount of animal bedding in your general waste container. Please contact your local council for more information.

Please note, animal bedding is not accepted at Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Animal/pet waste

Pet waste, such as dog waste and cat litter, should be bagged and put in the general waste bin – it should never be put in your kerbside recycling collection.

Artificial Grass

​Artificial grass can be disposed of at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Asbestos

Asbestos can be disposed of at a limited number of Household Waste Recycling Centres.  It should be securely wrapped and is chargeable, see the Asbestos page for guidance. 

Ash (Coal & Wood)

Wood ash can be placed in your general waste bin; please ensure that it is cool and damped down to prevent fires.
